DIRECTOR OF PROCUREMENT JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Procurement at Sun Tribe has broad responsibility over the design and management of the procurement department as well as the evaluation of suppliers and vendors, cultivation of strategic industry partnerships, negotiation of special supplier agreements and forecasting of availability and pricing of major system components.  This position is also responsible for leading the development and continuous improvement of purchasing procedures and workflows that ultimately serve both the development and construction teams.

DIRECTOR OF PROCUREMENT RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Procurement reports to the Vice President of Pre-construction and works closely with other key team members including the Vice President of Construction, Accounting Team, Finance Team and Project Management Team(s).

DIRECTOR OF PROCUREMENT PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Department Head
    • Establish and promote core values of the department as well as company-wide values
    • Set strategic direction and vision for the department that aligns with company-wide objectives
    • Set department goals and measure performance against goals
    • Manage the department’s interaction with the broader organization by representing the department in executive decision making, negotiating interdepartmental challenges, and communicating regularly back to team members relevant information regarding the company-at large and other departments
    • Control expenses and human resources decisions for the department
    • Organize workflows, establish SOPs and assign accountability
    • Manage ALL department team members by ensuring well-being, defining individual success, linking individual success to department and company success, securing necessary resources to allow individual success, and encouraging professional growth
    • Continuously improve the department’s capability
    • Responsible for difficult, high-risk or complex decisions required of the department, elevating when necessary
  • Forecasting
    • Establish and maintain forward cost curves for major equipment
    • Forecast major equipment needs to match project pipeline
  • Reporting
    • Run spend visibility reports and publish to department heads
    • Conduct spend analysis to identify savings opportunities
  • Process Development
    • Develop and continuously improve internal processes for procurement workflows
  • Purchasing
    • Purchase major equipment including PV modules and inverters
    • Coordinate bulk equipment orders
    • Draft and negotiate terms and conditions for purchase orders
  • Supplier Management
    • Manage supplier relationships
    • Negotiate and execute Special Pricing Agreements and Master Purchase Agreements
    • Research and qualify new manufacturers and suppliers, including development of a standard vendor qualification procedure
    • Perform manufacturer and supplier facility audits
    • Interface with Finance team to manage vendor credit accounts
  • Information Management
    • Develop and maintain a database for cost comparison among vendor, subcontractor and product alternatives to support management decisions
    • Communicate product availability, lead times, and cost forecasts for key project materials to development, engineering and construction management teams
  • Industry Research
    • Keep pulse on new technologies in the solar PV market

DIRECTOR OF PROCUREMENT DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in administration, engineering, construction management or supply chain management
  • 3-5 years’ experience in construction procurement, solar PV preferred
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in project management, purchasing and accounting software platforms
  • Understanding of project management tools and concepts
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and materials used to construct solar PV systems preferred
  • Experience negotiating contracts, pricing and terms with vendors
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
  • Self-motivated
  • Honest, reliable, self-aware and conscientious
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
