Field Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Field Operations Manager designs, manages, and continuously improves the in-house construction program at Sun Tribe Solar. Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to) human resources, safety, budgeting, scheduling, logistics, construction methodology, quality control, training and daily operations. As a member of the leadership team the Field Operations Manager will participate in the development of organizational directives, goals, and targets while maintaining responsibility to implement these decisions. This position serves as the point of contact and liaison between office leadership and field execution team.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In-House Construction Management & Strategy
  • Manage the success of the in-house construction program at STS
  • Establish goals and metrics for cost, quality, and safety
  • Monitor, report and improve on both job-specific and overall key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Advise on resource capacity requirements to meet the global construction schedule

Safety

  • Drive safety and quality standards
  • Create and foster safety culture
  • Coordinate with Safety Director for PPE and field training needs
  • Standardizing Procedures
  • Standardize all workflow associated with field operations, including administration, warehouse and construction site tasks
  • Design, document and convey best work practices
  • Create a framework and job site standards that support the success of each team member
  • Design, implement and train project team on SOPs and operational directives from leadership

Human Resources & Training

  • Recruit PV installers to maintain sufficient human resources with respect to project pipeline
  • Communicate to leadership regularly on staffing needs and oversee new crew hiring
  • Assemble project specific teams based on individual strengths and weaknesses
  • Cultivate leadership within the field team to drive efficiency
  • Oversee and manage individualized training plans for each member of the field team
  • Conduct individual employee reviews for all direct reports on a bi-annual basis

Daily Operations

  • Schedule and allocate field resources on a job-by-job basis
  • Oversee and direct organization of the warehouse, material tracking, and job kitting
  • Hold daily morning meetings with the field team
  • Develop budgets and make purchases for field personnel and operations

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Safety and quality focused individual
  • Demonstrated success in reorganizing and leading teams of 10 to 40 individuals
  • Experience in managing direct reports
  • Experience in Solar PV preferred but not required – 15MW per year
  • Strong computer skills
  • General understanding of physical, electrical, and structural construction plans
  • Self-motivated
  • Honest, reliable, self-aware and conscientious
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills
