Electrical Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

As an Electrical Engineer at Sun Tribe, you will be responsible for aiding the AC and DC system design of commercial, industrial and utility scale PV and energy storage projects. The engineering team is integral to project success from design through construction and operation.

As an Electrical Engineer at Sun Tribe, you will be responsible for aiding the AC and DC system design of commercial, industrial and utility scale PV and energy storage projects.

The Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create accurate system performance models in PVsyst and Helioscope
  • Perform electrical calculations for sizing wire, conduit, electrical panel, and BOS equipment
  • Create project one-line, three-line and SCADA drawings
  • Evaluate and select equipment to optimize system economics, functionality, reliability, and safety
  • Develop specifications for major plant equipment including transformers, switchgear, inverters, battery systems, and SCADA equipment
  • Work with equipment suppliers and integrators to develop custom equipment solutions
  • Review contractor scopes of work
  • Perform system load-flow and short circuit studies
  • Perform arc-flash risk assessments on AC and DC equipment
  • Provide field support when necessary to solve technical problems, communicate design details, and perform quality control walk-throughs
  • Support the interconnection request process and provide cost estimates including substation, overhead line, and switchgear costs. Maintain and update interconnection pricing models
  • Assist the O&M team to resolve issues
  • Gain a strong understanding of and advance Sun Tribe’s design concepts and standards
  • Continually seek new equipment and design methodologies for PV and energy storage systems

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Currently holds or is in the process of EIT certification
  • Experience in Solar PV and energy storage systems preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Sketchup, or CAD/CAM programs
  • Experience with power system analysis tools such as SKM, ETAP, Cyme, CDEGs, or WinIGS preferred but not required
  • Experience with the National Electric Code as it pertains to solar PV system design preferred but not required
  • Experience in PV system performance modeling in PVsyst or Helioscope preferred but not required
  • Strong computer skills
  • General understanding of physical, electrical, and structural construction plans
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong Planning, organization, and prioritization skills
